Day 10: Though You Have Not Seen Him

Though you have not seen Him, you love Him…1Peter 1:8, NASB
My wife and I had a long-distance relationship.

We had met at a summer camp, become good friends, and started trading ink and paper letters on a regular basis.  I was very much in love with the person writing me these letters.  However, truth be told, I couldn’t remember what she looked like. When I closed my eyes, I couldn’t picture her face.  This was in the late 90’s, before digital cameras and social media made photo-swapping common place.

Day 9: The Bridegroom Longs for You

Matthew 9:15 - And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Day 8: Longing for Christ’s Return

You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness (2 Peter 2:11-13)

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Day 7: Intercession: Praying with Jesus for Unity

The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
 (John 17:22-23 NASB)

“If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention.”  These words apply to this passage better than any contemporary political circumstance.  What Jesus is praying for is so outrageous, it’s possible that we might simply gloss over it!  Let’s try to understand, first of all, what Jesus is really asking.

Day 5 Devotional: A Call to Pray for the Nations

Day 5: Intercession: A Call to Pray for the Nations

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.  Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matt 9:35-38, NKJV)

Devotional Day 4: Jesus’ New Commandment

Day 4: Jesus’ New Commandment
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.  John 13:34-35 NIV

It was the final evening Jesus would have with His disciples before His was crucified. As they shared the historic Passover meal, Jesus announced the long-promised new covenant.1 Then He gave them a new commandment.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Devotional Day 3: Who are we Trusting?

Day 3: Who are we Trusting?

“You cannot serve God and mammon” – Matthew 6:24 NKJV

There is deception in the Western church today that most Christians are on the right side of this absolute truth. One deception goes something like: I am not a greedy person; I believe in Jesus; I tithe and give, so therefore I don’t have this problem.

10 Days Devotional: Day 1

Day 1:  Unity - John 17

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  John 17:20-21
